The Serbus Tambura Orchestra was founded in Zagreb in April 2003. It is the love of music that brings the group together, and through our work we strive to nurture the long tradition of the tambura and tambura music in Croatia. Though most of us have full time jobs, we still find the time to hold rehearsals on a regular basis so as to develop musically both as a collective and individually. We continually make an effort to broaden our repertoire, from selections from traditional folk songs to popular classical works, and any other form of music that is compatible with the tambura. The next following pages will present to you what we do, and here you can also listen to the music we play. We are especially proud of our CD with Zvonko Bogdan called "Godine su mnoge prošle" (Many Years Have Gone By), for which we have received three Porin Awards. We would like to especially thank Mladen Grobenski for all his hard work and effort that he dedicated to the band. Although most of us have come from various parts of Croatia, we chose a band name that would best characterize the place where we work and perform, which is Zagreb and its surrounding areas.

"Serbus" is an older form of the greeting for both ‘hello’ and ‘good by’, and is used by people of similar backgrounds. It comes from the Latin word "servus" meaning servant. This greeting is still used by many of the older generation who were educated in Zagreb’s university and/or high schools. It is also still used by people in Croatian towns where there are Hungarian speaking populations, and in circles that are familiar with the traditions of the Hungarian upper class.

Serbus!
